Discover Faro / Algarve

Placed as the gateway to the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal, Faro is a step above what you imagine most resort towns to be. Here, the history and culture of Portugal remain, and sit beside stunning coastline, beautiful parks and plenty of plazas.

Many reasons to be cheerful

If it's the historic element that's attracted you to Faro, a trip to the Museu Municipal should definitely be on the cards. The building itself is a brilliant example of Portuguese architecture, and houses many interesting exhibits. To see the history in the flesh, be sure to visit the Cidade Velha - an area of Faro's old town which remains in the original medieval walls.

History isn't all that's on offer in Faro, though. Expect golden sands and blue seas - Praia de Faro is a town favourite - as well as a fantastic number of restaurants and bars with a great nightlife. As the gateway for the Algarve, you can also use Faro as a base for a little bit of further exploration along the west coast. From dolphin watching to ancient lighthouses, there's plenty within Faro's reach for everyone.
